If We Were Having Coffee… | Vol. 1

I’ve heard all about this blog feature and rather liked the idea behind it so I’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon. Introducing my new Sunday post…

if-we-were-having-coffee-new

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that, firstly, I’m more of a tea drinker. An Earl Grey tea drinker to be precise. I occasionally have coffee: either because I’ve pulled an all-nighter and am in desperate need of waking up, or because Starbucks’ festive menu has returned (yes, I’m a sucker for their Christmas lattes).

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m currently in Chengdu teaching English in a Chinese secondary school (if you didn’t already know that from Twitter/Instagram). I teach sixteen forty-minute lessons a week and each lesson is with a different class. It can be tough but I’m loving it at the moment! I have another five weeks left.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that both my family and my boyfriend visited (and then left) Chengdu to see me. It was lovely to spend time with them properly after not seeing them for four entire monthsWe went to see the famous pandas and some of the other tourist attractions around the area (see more here).

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that this weekend I plan to sit down and finally get down to some blog posts. I’ve been so busy getting accustomed to life here in China that I’ve barely had a minute to myself! But I know that I want to finish my posts on Australia and Bali (watch this space).

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have three meals a day provided for me by the school on weekdays. I’m never up early enough for the breakfast (6:50am? No thank you) but the main part of both lunch and dinner is rice. Rice rice rice rice riceAlways rice. But you know what? I’m actually starting to like the school’s food and their various dishes.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’d very much like to improve my Mandarin. I spent a month from February-March at an intensive Mandarin school to work upon my GCSE knowledge. I improved significantly. I’m now strongly considering going back there for a month after my teaching before returning home. I’m also thinking about taking the HSK 5 in the near future (the Chinese standard language proficiency test).

If we were having coffee,  I would tell you that I have been binge-watching Game of Thrones. I’m at the end of Season 4 now but I aim to finish Season 5 by the time Season 6 airs. Unfortunately, the wifi in my room is atrocious and it can sometimes take me five hours to load just a single episode. Here’s to hoping I get through all of the episodes in time!

Tell me…

  • Have you ever thought about teaching English abroad?
  • Do you want to become proficient in another language?
  • Do you watch Game of Thrones?

Peace and love,
Viola xo
