20 Things To Do Before 20

20-before-20

I know I’m posting this just over a month of me turning the big 2-0 but I thought it would be fun and interesting to see what things I manage to achieve. Plus, there are a couple of things I would like to say I had done before I waved goodbye to my teenage years.

1. Get up early enough to see the sunrise.
I’ve seen the sunrise before {who hasn’t?!} but it’s been a while since I actually physically dragged myself out of bed and saw it some where outside. Before I’m 20, I’d love to watch the sun rise with some friends and be able to capture it.

2. Read How To Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie.
I’ve heard about this book by so many people and yet I’ve still never got round to reading it. I’ll make sure I do before I hit 20 😉

3. Bake a big cake.
This one may sound silly to you but I haven’t baked a proper, full-sized cake since I was a child. My family are very much into cupcakes (and also we have a slight problem with our oven) which means we can’t bake bigger cakes successfully. As a result, I really want to bake a cake before I turn 20.

4. Go for afternoon tea.
If any of you have been readers of my blog from the start, you’re probably already aware how much love afternoon tea. I seriously can’t get enough of it! And when I say afternoon tea, I mean the full stand with mini sandwiches, scones and cakes as well as a pot of Earl Grey tea. I haven’t had a complete afternoon tea in what seems like forever!

5. Sleep under the stars.
I have kind-of done this one already but I’ve put it on here simply because it would be amazing if I managed to get this done again before my birthday. Who doesn’t love the idea of sleeping under the stars?! It’s absolutely freezing here in Oxford but just maybe?

6. Make a blanket fort.
Pretty self-explanatory and very fun.

7. Be more generous – complete 30 random acts of kindness.
On 24th January I will begin my 30 random acts of kindness – leading all the way up until my birthday! I am yet to decide which thirty acts I’ll get through but I’m excited. Not only will I enjoy myself and feel pretty damn good, but I’ll also bring joy and happiness to others!

8. Do something active everyday.
Definitely something I will struggle with. I hope to move my body in some way at least every day (even if that’s five minutes of something).

9. Write a letter (or make a video?) for myself to open in 10 years time.
I really, really like the idea behind this one. I might write a letter and make a video for myself – who knows? As cringey as the video idea sounds, I reckon I’ll appreciate it and be glad I made it when I’m 29. Who knows. I love doing things for my future self {I wrote two letters to myself when I was 15 – one to open when I was 16 and one to open when I was 18}.

10. Dance in the rain.
I am always one to drop everything and go and dance in the rain. I love the feeling of being carefree and getting completely and utterly soaked. I hope I get the chance to do this again before I’m 20!

11. Go vegetarian for a week. Go vegan for a week.
I’m not a massive meat-eater (I tend to eat meat 3-4 times a week) and I think going vegetarian for a week wouldn’t be too much of a challenge for me. Therefore, I’d like to go vegan for at least a week. It’ll be fun, a chance to experiment more with other foods and something else to blog about! Any tips?!

12. Go on a blind date(?)
I don’t know – I’m kinda nervous/worried to even post this one. If it happens, it happens. An experience nevertheless.

13. Watch a foreign film without subtitles.
I don’t know what made me put this one down but I thought it would be a laugh. I wonder which film and which language I’ll go for…

14. Be impulsive.
If I want to buy that really gorgeous top or those incredible shoes I’m just going to do it. If I want to eat that extra slice of pizza? I’ll do it. If I want to kiss that cute guy? I’ll do it! I want to be more impulsive and carefree – I mean, if you don’t do it in your teenage years, when will you?!

15. Eat something crazy.
I don’t know how I’ll fulfil this one but if there’s anything strange or quirky that I’ve never tried before, I’ll try it. Why not?

16. Surprise a friend with a friendlationship date.
This sounds like such a nice gesture and something I’d be able to share with someone else. I’m excited to see when/if this happens!

17. Try something new.
So I have a month to try something new. What will it be? Hmm…

18. Get a massage.
I am well and truly in need of a massage. The last time I had a professional one must have been in Antigua back in 2015! Although the aerial yoga session at Bali had the same effect.

19. Turn off the lights and talk to friends in the dark.
Sounds kind of childish but I haven’t done this in a while. The darkness somehow makes you far more comfortable talking about things with others – I think people should do it more.

20. Buy a world map and mark where I’ve been.
Something I should have done well over a year ago. As a complete lover of travel, I need to visually see where I’ve been and plan where my next destination will be. I need to get my hands on a map!

So there you have it – my twenty things to do before twenty.

  1. This was great, I loved your goals! Particularly the one with the future letters to yourself, I might actually do the same it sounds like fun 🙂 I did a 20 before 20 a few weeks ago… They really help you put things into perspective!

  2. Watching a film in a foreign language without subtitle is a pretty awesome experience, you begin to pick up words and begin to gain interest for the actual language. For me it was Bahasa Indonesian, what about you?

    • Hmm, I haven’t quite decided yet haha! I may go for Chinese just so I can pick up some other random words (I have studied it previously) but I may go rogue and do a completely random language. Or perhaps Spanish or Portuguese?

      • Growing up speaking Portuguese and learning Spanish I can say they’re beautiful languages (or maybe I’m just biased 🙂 ). I’d like to learn Chinese though.

  3. Absolutely love this!! I’ve got 9 months yet until my 20th but you’ve inspired me to do a post like this! Getting up to watch the sunrise and sleeping under the stars are definitely things I want to do before the end of my teenage years! Anna x

  4. Excellent goals. The thing that struck me about this is how many opportunities you have ahead of you – to do so many things others take for granted for the first time.

  5. this bucket list is incredible- every one of these i’m in love with! i really hope you tick each one off within the next month or so😊

  6. Ahh I love this! I’m feeling so inspired to try and do some of the things on this list before I turn 20. You can get scratch maps and scratch off all the place you’ve visited if you’re thinking of doing that 🙂 xx

  7. I love this post! I turn 20 this year in June so might have to come up with my own list! Love the one about reading How To Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie, it’s a book I’ve wanted to attempt too!
