If We Were Having Coffee… | Vol. 21

if-we-were-having-coffee-new

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I am halfway though my first year at university which is not only crazy (no setiously, where has the time gone?!), but it’s also kinda sad {not to mention also slightly terrifying…}. I’m really loving it here and I don’t like how fast time is going! 😟

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I got my Collection result back (more on that in the vlog to come) and it’s only made me want to do better and work harder at my Latin grammar. I know I didn’t work hard enough whatsoever over the vacation so I need to make sure I do over Easter!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’ve been doing the lighting for a production of Dying Light for the past week. The entire cast and crew is from my college (bar one actor) so it’s been really lovely to work with familiar faces. The show has been going well and I’ve actually got some lighting skills now (I was asked to do the show with my only lighting experience being Drama Cuppers last term…) I can now set up the lights, choose the settings and then programme in all of the cues with the timings and fade-outs etc.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I successfully completed a week of veganism! It was definitely quite difficult to think of what I could eat (especially because I don’t have cooking facilities in college) and, if I’m completely honest, I found it so boring. Nevertheless, I would definitely be open to trying it again properly when I’m able to cook and prepare my own meals. I missed chocolate and dairy products the most which I found fairly surprising but I’m glad to have experienced being vegan. It’s also on my list of 20 things to do before 20 so I can tick that off now!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’ve got into the swing of writing essays now. I’ve finished just over half of the reading for next week’s essay due on Wednesday morning and I’m fairly confident I’ll be able to start planning the essay tomorrow. The first couple of essays saw me finishing the reading on Monday evening and then pulling an all-nighter to get the essay done!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have reached over 800 subscribers on YouTube now – wow?! Thank you all so much. I love posting content for you and vlogging everyday and I know that I’m helping and inspiring a lot of you, so thank you for the support ❀️

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have eaten an insane amount of food this past week. I think this is partly because I didn’t eat that well during my week of being vegan (and also I think Mother Nature really didn’t help) and so I’ve completely gorged on everything and anything. I seriously need to cut back next week. Buuuut, I did tick off another of my 20 things to do before 20 πŸ˜‰

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have been organising lots of formal swaps this term. This basically involves inviting a friend from another college with 2-3 of their friends to dine at our college’s formal hall and then we do the same and eat at theirs. So far we have experienced St. Benet’s Hall formal which is completely different from New College’s! We’ve got Hertford, Christ Church, Jesus, Worcester and Queen’s lined up and potentially also Keble and Lincoln this term. It’s such fun as we get to eat other college’s foods, see what their formal hall is like and also meet new people outside college.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that we went to Wadham’s bop* a couple of weeks ago. It was pyjama-themed (those ones really are the best) and it was so interesting to see what another college’s bop is like. Wadham looks like such good fun and, unlike at New, their bops are in their JCR** and so have a much better turnout!

*bop – a themed college-based party

**JCR – Junior Common Room representing the undergraduate student body

P.S. Have you seen my first week back at Oxford vlog?!

  1. I think living in college without cooking facilities makes veganism a huge challenge, and it can be expensive, especially compared to lacto-vegetarianism. Like any lifestyle change I think it can take a while to adjust to. Can I ask why you decided to try it out just for one week?
