I’M BACK – If We Were Having Coffee… | Vol. 26

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have just launched my new blog! Have you noticed that I’ve now got rid of the wordpress.com at the end of my URL?! Not only have I purchased my own domain (hellooooo www.apieceofviola.com), but I’ve also gone self-hosted so keep your eyes peeled for some exciting improvements around here. I’ll be slowly spending time changing things up and adding really cool bits + bobs to this blog. I can’t wait!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the UK is currently in some kind of heat wave. Who would have thought it would be 25 degrees+ in May for several days in a row?! It’s been absolutely gorgeous and I’ve been spending my time outside: soaking up the sun while it lasts and lounging about in the gardens trying to do some work. Though the weather is amazing, it makes me feel really tired all the time (which definitely doesn’t help on the work-front).

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m still kinda worried about my reader/subscriber situation right now. When I made the move, I lost a lot of my readers. I’m still yet to work out what happens with my blog posts now – do they still appear in the WordPress ‘Reader’ for WordPress followers? Do WordPress followers still get emails (I know that readers who signed up via email do)? If both of these things aren’t true, then I’ve sadly lost the majority of my readers. I really hope they will be able to find this site and re-follow everything to keep up to date, otherwise I’ll be building my way up from scratch. And that’s not fun. It’s exciting, but not great. *cries*

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the past two weeks at university have been ridiculously busy (and hence why I dropped off the blogging wagon for a while). I’ve had an intensive couple of weeks work-wise (we had two extra seminars where we had to create two presentations and we’ve also been set two extra essays on top of our usual essay/problem sheet and language work!) The next couple of weeks will pretty much be the same since I’ll be *fairly* pushed for time as I’m in the college’s Greek play all of next week. I’ve also got another Collection in 7th Week (2 weeks time) which I’ve given myself because the first one didn’t go so well…

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I actually got sick twice since I wrote my last ‘If We Were Having Coffee…‘ post. The first weekend unfortunately coincided with Julia’s 19th which really, really sucked but I still made it to her birthday formal and birthday meal at Zizzi’s. The second time was worse (I slept a lot during the day), my throat was constantly sore and I was coughing a lot. It wasn’t nice. Both times happened because I was doing so much and not getting much sleep. I distinctly remember not being surprised when it happened the second time because that week I’d been running on ~4 hours sleep a night without taking naps or coffee – how I did it I’ll never know.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I went to Mealy McMealface (a formal dinner for all JCR members who’ve contributed to the JCR over the past year); I had a few more rowing outings (which I actually really enjoyed!) and erg sessions (I didn’t enjoy these so much); we had the New College Boat party on the Thames in London; I’ve been to Trinity Formal and Univ Formal, and had people to New College’s; we had an Open Day for Freshers’ families and friends where Mum came down for the afternoon and we thoroughly indulged ourselves in the afternoon tea on offer; I went to the RAG Garden Party; I organised a BMEal (a meal for BME students from New College and another college) and I was elected as BME Rep for New College’s JCR Committee next year, yay!

And we should all be up to speed now. I hope you enjoyed reading my update and asdfghjkl I’m so, so excited to make changes on this site that’s my little place on the internet. I just really hope that I can regain my readership, and my goal is to improve engagement. Let’s see what happens next – thank you for reading <3

  1. OMG congrats on migrating over to wordpress.org, it must be so terrifying! I love watching your vlogs, they’re so much fun 🙂 I hope you’re feeling better now and congrats for getting elected as BME representative! Don’t worry, you’ll still have a reader in me 🙂

    1. Thank you so much Jess, it’s been incredibly stressful (especially with uni work too) and I have lost a load of readers but I’ll hopefully build them back up again 🙁 – thanks so much for all your lovely feedback <3
