If We Were Having Coffee… | Vol. 29

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m currently in China. Over the past two weeks, I toured some sights and met with friends in Beijing; I travelled to Inner Mongolia for four days; and I’ve just started my Study China programme here in Hangzhou.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I was so excited, yet so nervous for the programme to start. Since I’m not a beginner, I really didn’t want to be placed in a class that I would find too easy. As it turns out, the university are completely unorganised (typical China) and they haven’t actually got a class for non-beginners. It’s been a nightmare trying to sort everything out and push for them to rearrange the classes (the teachers always say “at the end of class” when posed with a problem, but I didn’t want to be sitting in the back of a beginners class for three hours!) We should have a new class and teacher tomorrow… if not, I’ll be really angry. We’ve already missed out on 8.5 hours of proper teaching time!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’ve been really bad with keeping up with posts while here in China. It’s been really difficult to find the time to write up the ones that I’ve missed (whoops… they’re still coming, I promise). Finding decent enough wifi to edit photos and upload them is also hard. I’ve been posting over on Instagram stories though, so head over if you want to stay updated. They’ve finally managed to provide us with the WiFi on campus though, and it works well in my room.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that our itinerary on the programme is pretty intense and jam-packed. We barely have any free time at all as we have planned excursions, cultural classes and academic/business courses on top of Mandarin in the mornings. We’ve already been to the famous West Lake along with the National Tea Museum and Silk Museum. There’s so much to come; I can’t wait to write up blog posts on everything {as well as hopefully vlogging it!}

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’ve hit over 3,000 subscribers on YouTube which is absolutely insane. I don’t even know that many people in reality so it really does blow my mind. I’m also pretty proud of the collaboration Ibz and I did over on both mine and his channels (Oxford VS Cambridge on his, and a Personal Q&A on mine). I’ve also been uploading travel vlogs {and there’s more to come} so go and subscribe if you haven’t already 😉

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that some exciting emails have been dropping into my inbox. I can’t wait to share some news with you! I love checking my blog emails, especially when a pretty cool opportunity pops up. Stay tuned…

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’ve been shortlisted for the #BloggersBlogAwards for the Best Vlogger?! I’m so shocked to have been shortlisted and I’m so, so happy. It would honestly mean the world to me if you took the time to vote for me here. I never thought someone would nominate my lil YouTube channel! Thank you all so much <3

  1. Hey Viola. Just wanted to say I love your blog and YouTube channel. I really like your posts of pictures in China. I am a British born Chinese (from London as well) so I really need to improve my Mandarin. I was planning to maybe go there for summer school next year becuase I might take it for GCSE.

    Best wishes,

    Lucy

    • Hi Lucy, thank you so much! It’s great that you’re looking to connect with your roots. Going to China would be really, really useful if you want to take Mandarin GCSE 🙂 x
