The Oxford Law Society put on a ball termly at some of the most beautiful locations over the country. Not one to miss a ball (I went to two last term), when I heard that this term’s one would be at The Roman Baths, I just had to ballot. We were incredibly lucky and were somehow successful in the ballot (only ~130 people could go!)
When Monday of 8th Week rolled around we could not wait! There was quite a large New College contingent because a lot of the society’s committee happen to be from our college 😉 We all congregated by our college’s garden for pictures before walking to the coach pick-up location. I wore a deep-plunge navy playsuit paired with some tie-up black stilettos and very simple jewellery.
After the two-hour coach journey to Bath, we were welcomed with a champagne and canapé reception around the gorgeous baths. There was a harpist across the main bath playing beautifully along with a magician and cartoon artist for entertainment. The atmosphere was so serene and calm.
We got some stunning pictures taken around the baths by the two photographers there:
After about an hour of enjoying the setting, we were informed that dinner was ready. There was a full seating plan (and you were seated with the three other people you balloted with) and each person got a goodie bag which was a nice personal touch.
How cool are these caps though?!
We were then treated to a delicious three-course meal with unlimited wine…
After probably drinking a little too much wine and hearing the Law Society Committee’s speeches, the dance floor was open and so was the bar. In the other room there were cupcakes, face-painting and a photo booth.
There was even a Snapchat filter…
The night was so, so much fun and I can’t thank the Law Society enough for a fabulous event to end term with. The entire evening was incredible (we left at 5pm and arrived back to Oxford at past 3am!) and I’ve made some wonderful memories. I also want to say a huge thank you to both of the photographers, Matt and Sam, for capturing some amazing moments and some truly stunning pictures. Their sites are here and here if you want to check out their photography. I’m so excited to edit the vlog footage from the ball – I’ll edit this post with the link to the video once it’s live!
Have you been to a ball or a similar event at your university?
Peace and love,
