The Caribbean Series: Antigua

This is what you’ve all been waiting for isn’t it? C’mon.. 😏

After having an amazing time in Grenada, we sadly had to say goodbye as we boarded our next flight – Antigua bound! We arrived in the evening and it was very dark so there was no time to properly explore. We dined in the restaurant and then hit the sheets. I went for a stroll the next morning though; we stayed at the Jolly Beach Resort.

Our first full day was the Wednesday. Wednesday 8th July was spent finishing off Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban along with taking the kayaks out for a good hour or two. Lounging by the pool sunbathing with a strawberry daiquiri in my hand was also on the agenda (the daiquiris there were frozen and so good).

The following day, my sister and I had our first ever sailing lesson. The best part about all of these water sports?! It was all completely FREE! I was really nervous to learn how to sail because there was a lot to learn – the direction of the wind and the sails as well as knowing how to steer the boat. When the instructor had finally gone through everything to make sure we understood perfectly (this had taken about an hour in itself), we jumped onto one of their boats and we were off! Very scary… but also enjoyable. After eating even more food and drinking even more strawberry daiquiris, my sister and I were joined by our mum on the ‘kayak adventure’ scheduled for the afternoon.

It was a really nice afternoon and the sun was shining. A group of us kayaked around one of the rocks and then had a stopover and a swim in the sea before returning. It took about two hours in total and was really, really fun. Who doesn’t want to see their parents struggling to manoeuvre a kayak?! When we got back we had time for some pictures in the resort – you can read my full OOTD post featuring Jade London here.

I snapped some gorgeous photos of the sunset and palm trees:

As it was our last night, we took a stroll along the beach and took in our last moments on the island.

Our last and final day also happened to be my sister’s sixteenth birthday – perfect! We made sure the day was extra special for her and gave her her final gifts (the others were holiday-related and gifted early). We ate a ridiculous amount of cake for breakfast and enjoyed the free BBQ food for an early lunch. I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a sixteenth birthday: on a beautiful Caribbean island with the sun, sea and scrumptious food at your fingertips.. what could be better? She ended it as a happy bunny on the plane home with full access to the Club Kitchen and an extensive range of films!

We all had a great time in Antigua and though it was more touristy than Grenada, and although we didn’t have the time to fully explore this new island, our time at the Jolly Beach Resort was enjoyable and the free water sports included was definitely a plus! (Although the ‘free’ wifi was an absolute nightmare!)
