Plan Your Next Getaway from Home with Trip Map World

In the age of COVID-19, travel isn’t possible for the vast majority of people around the world. Whether that’s because you are physically restricted by border closures, or because you don’t feel safe to travel at the moment. Nonetheless, we travellers can still make the most of this strange and difficult time despite being stuck at home. Trip Map World creates the most gorgeous, high-quality canvas maps which allow you to pin the cities and countries you have been to, and ones that you plan on visiting!

As an avid traveller myself, I had to get one of these to decorate my bedroom. I opted for a medium grey world push-pin map to sit above my desk. To fit in with the colour scheme of my room, I opted for teal green pins to push into the map.

I was so excited to receive this map and it did not disappoint! The evening I spent pushing pins into all of the countries and cities I’ve been to was extremely enjoyable. I sat with a steaming mug of ginger and lemon tea whilst I reminisced all of the places I have been fortunate enough to travel to. Pinning the cities in China I’d been to reminded me of the time I travelled back to Chengdu from Beijing for one week during the Dragon Boat Festival back in 2016 just to spend it with the students I had taught for the two months prior. I was welcomed with open arms by my Year 11 students, and I spent the day itself at one student’s house with his entire family. A really special memory.

Whilst pinning Cairns in Australia, I was taken back to the time I almost drowned whilst scuba diving… an unpleasant experience but one that definitely defined the city for me. Another near-death experience was in Yosemite National Park in California. We were camping in March when we suddenly heard rustling right beside our tent. It was definitely an animal, and almost certainly a bear. We froze. We had been very careful and taken all of our food and any strong-smelling products to the bear boxes before getting ready for bed but we had made a very silly mistake. The weather forecasted torrential rain so we wrapped our shoes in a plastic bag and left it in the door of our tent. The bag in question had previously carried cheetos. Luckily we weren’t attacked and only came out of the ordeal with half-chewed shoes (and we weren’t even expecting to still have shoes! We were fully prepared to wade through the mud and torrential rain in our bare feet to the local shop).

This map also helped to inspire my future travel plans this year as I am taking a second gap year to see more of the world (COVID-19 dependant). The map highlighted just how much of the world there is still to see! I haven’t ever been to South America, a continent I would love to go to but have always been reluctant to visit until I can go with a male, and with someone who speaks Spanish. But maybe this year is the year to take the plunge and go alone (whenever international borders reopen)?
