Now that I’ve been back from university for a solid two and a half weeks, I’ve had plenty of time to finally catch up on all of the shows I’ve been dying to watch. Always scouring the internet and blog posts in search of the next TV show I should become obsessed with, I thought I’d share with you my current favourites.
Jane the Virgin
I first stumbled across this TV show on Netflix when Alice and I were in Melbourne and playing around with the smart TV in our apartment. Ever since we started the series together, I’ve been hooked. It’s funny and dramatic and totally unrealistic but the cast is incredible. The basic storyline is that Jane (a virgin), played by Gina Rodriguez, is artificially inseminated. Accidentally. The series is made in the style of a telenovela (something I got used to quite quickly) and I love it. We follow Jane’s hectic life filled with her crazy yet adorable family, her love life (including her baby daddy) and all the ups and downs that come with being a twenty-something. Plus, the male characters are also attractive. Give it a go – if you love Ugly Betty then you’ll definitely love this.
The Vampire Diaries
Now I know this series has just had their Season Finale but it’s a series that if you haven’t already watched (I know the vast majority have probably watched a fair few episodes) then you really should. Yes, it’s cheesy and yes, it’s trashy but if you’re looking for a new series to binge-watch then this is it. I’ve watched The Vampire Diaries for a good three years now (I’ve even watched Seasons 1-3 twice) and I’m unashamed to say that I still love it. The plot revolves around a teenage girl, Elena, who has just lost both of her parents in a car accident. She falls in love with a vampire, Stefan, and things get complicated when his brother shows up and falls in love with Elena, creating a love triangle. There are tons of other sub-plots but you get the gist when vampires are involved, right?
After watching The Vampire Diaries’ final episode ever, I was in need of a new show to watch. It takes me a while to find a show that I’ll really enjoy and get hooked on, and so I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled across this gem. How had I not heard about Riverdale before?! Probably because I don’t actually have a Netflix account…
Anyway, this show is great. Think Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars merged: there’s glamour and beauty but also mystery and darkness. The show is based on the characters in Archie Comics and set in your typical American high school filled with teenage drama.
BBC Three’s new drama written by Jess Brittain who also wrote for Skins. The show revolves around two best friends, Holly and Georgia, who are in their first year at university. They get sucked into a group of girls, the ‘clique’, who seem to be living in a glitzy, glamorous world with their Solasta internships but there’s something dark about the company. I’m sad there are only six episodes to this thriller because I’m really enjoying it (though sometimes Georgia and Jude annoy me).
These are the current TV shows I’ve been really enjoying and I hope you go and check them out if you’re ever in need of something new to watch!
What TV show are you obsessed with? Any favourites I’ve missed?
P.S. I’m in China right now so be sure to follow the adventures!
Peace and love,
